French ear acupuncture
French ear acupuncture is also called auriculotherapy (auricolo = ear). It was developed and systematised by the French engineer, biologist, and doctor Paul Nogier (1908-1996). He discovered that the entire human nervous system is connected to the ear and that it is simultaneously accessible there for treatment. The ear functions as a reflex zone and Nogier proved that an applied stimulus at a specifically indicated point in the body will result in a visible, tender, or electronically measurable point in the corresponding area of the ear.
Chinese ear acupuncture
Chinese ear acupuncture is closely linked to traditional Chinese medicine and can be traced back as far as 500-300 BC.
In Chinese ear acupuncture, the meridian theory is very important for the selection of points in the ear and is often also combined with general body acupuncture.
Many of the psychological points used in addiction therapy originate from Chinese ear acupuncture.
